Marsha Reuther, M.D.
As a native Californian, Dr. Marsha Reuther is especially dedicated to serving the local community. She began her education at UC Berkeley, earning a degree in molecular and cell biology with an emphasis in neurobiology. She received her medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and was one of few elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society during her third year. She graduated with both the Distinction in Research Award and the Distinction in Community Service Award.
Dr. Reuther returned to California to train in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at UC San Diego. During her training, she completed an additional two years of NIH-funded research, receiving the American Academy of Otolaryngology research award both years. During her surgical training, Dr. Reuther developed a deep interest in helping people with voice and swallowing problems prompting her to pursue advanced training in laryngology under the instruction of world-renowned expert Dr. Gregory Postma at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Reuther is board certified in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery.
Dr. Reuther is an expert in voice disorders, professional voice care, swallowing disorders, extraesophageal and gastroesophageal reflux, airway surgery and reconstruction, and chronic cough. The ability to breathe, talk and swallow is inherent to an excellent quality of life, and any dysfunction can lead to social isolation and despair. Dr. Reuther is committed to helping people with these difficulties, thereby improving overall well-being.
Her expertise extends to many areas of laryngology, including treating the aging voice and performing in-office, unsedated laryngeal procedures to avoid the risks of general anesthesia. Office procedures she performs include vocal fold injections, biopsies, transnasal esophagoscopy, tracheoesophageal puncture and more.
She cares for patients in all aspects of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery, including nasal and sinus disease, head and neck cancer, salivary gland disorders, thyroid and parathyroid disease, allergy, snoring and sleep apnea. In addition to providing excellent care, Dr. Reuther emphasizes the value of a strong doctor-patient relationship and feels that patient education and understanding is of utmost importance. Dr. Reuther is fluent in both Spanish and Russian.
Dr. Reuther is a huge animal lover, and when not going to the dog beach with her four-legged buddies, husband and sons, she can be found playing tennis or pickleball, skiing, scuba diving or fishing.
